The Ceili Workshop Location is at the Pidgin Palace Friday February 27th at 7pm.

NOTE- Each Workshop is limited to 15 students, registering online is highly recommended. 

All other music workshops will be held in the Berger Center 1200 W Speedway, on Saturday February 28th. 

Workshops are approximately 90min long. Morning workshops are from 10:30am to 12pm and Afternoon workshops are from 1:30pm to 3pm. Descriptions of the workshops are below. See the instructor tab for instructor bios.  NOTE: No lunch is served, you may pack one or go off campus to eat. Snacks, tea and coffee will be available. 

FAQs- 

  1. What should I bring to class?  Pen/paper/notebook or smartphone for notes/recording instruction, sheet music and your instrument.        
  2. Can I attend a workshop without an instrument? Yes. You are very welcome to sit in and listen to the class to learn more about the instrument. (We do not currently have any instruments to loan)

  4. How do I know what level of musician I am? Beginner/Improver/Intermediate/Advanced
  • Beginner= no previous instrument experience or just a couple lessons, new to playing Irish music.   
  • Improver= Has basic fundamentals, can play a few tunes, has had some lessons, workshops.   
  • Intermediate= Has fundamentals, can play a number of tunes, comfortable playing some tunes in a session.   
  • Advanced= Confident with various aspects and skills of the instrument, playing numerous tunes and in sessions. 

 

Ceili Dancing - Elizabeth Solinsky-   FRIDAY FEB 27 7-9PM 

Please join us for a ceili dance workshop hosted by the Bracken School of Irish Dance. We will teach you some basic steps and guide you through some popular ceili dances. It is a vibrant energetic expression of Irish culture, so come enjoy the fun of ceili together. All ages, levels and abilities are welcome to attend. The more the merrier!

MORNING WORKSHOPS 1030-12PM   SATURDAY FEB 28TH 

Anglo Concertina- Claire Zucker

The class will use tune teaching to demonstrate and work on topics such as fingering, ornamentation, tune phrasing, and bellows control. Tips for tune learning, practicing, and playing in sessions will also be covered as time allows. The ability to play a few tunes and a strong working knowledge of your concertina’s layout are recommended for full participation.  Listeners are also welcome.  

Fundamentals of Fiddling- Mariah McCammond

For beginner to intermediate students with basic knowledge of their instrument who can competently play a 2 octave G major scale with and without slurs. We’ll be reviewing important foundations of posture, bow hold, and left hand technique; the fundamentals of learning tunes, how to make bowing choices, and the implementation of ornamentations. Together we’ll be working on the Jig commonly known as Out On the Ocean.
